PLM and CAD is sometimes by mistake

considered important in its self

It is only when we understand that the PLM primarily should be a support tool, assuring quality and minimizing waste in the daily work, we really can benefit from PLM.

Most PLM systems has the capability to provide this, so it is more up to the companies to assure a good mix between, "what can be done and controlled" and "what should be done and controlled".

It is especially important to assure, support for early phases, (little administration – many iteration), all departments need, (no process is stronger than the weakest link), and user friendliness/performance (the best tool is crap, if it is to slow).T

This is areas were PLM tools traditionally has been a bit week, out of the box.With other words, it is what’s feeds the company (what’s comes out of the production line) which is the reason for PLM, not PLM in itself.

By focusing on this we can assure a successful PLM implementation and ROI.We should focus on assuring company value, not IT value.
